Design Health Checklist
These items are some of the exact items that we use to evaluate and look at designs
Are all sharp edges filleted or chamfered?
➤ Prevents injuries, cracking from drops, and tool wear during machining.Do all sketches and features rebuild cleanly with no errors or warnings?
➤ Broken geometry creates hidden problems downstream in CAM or FEA.Are hole and thread sizes standard?
➤ Non-standard dimensions cause delays, tooling issues, and quoting confusion. Is the material defined and correct in the CAD file?
➤ “Generic Aluminum” doesn’t cut it — machinists need exact spec for feeds, speeds, and quoting. Can the part actually be machined or fabricated?
➤ Verify tool access, avoid deep narrow pockets, and respect cutter radii. Are all tolerances and finishes clearly documented on the drawing?
➤ Missing tolerances = assumptions = scrap risk.Does the model transfer cleanly to STEP/IGES?
➤ Always open exported files yourself to confirm no missing faces or gaps.Is the coordinate system logical for setup and machining?
➤ Z+ should be “up,” and origin placed where the shop will zero their machine.

How to Use Return Investment Calculator
Every yellow box is a place for you to put your information in.
You can use this calculator to look at the difference in cost for a single stage like prototyping or the entire full development process.
Use the same material and operating cost numbers for the current process and King CAD, see how much saving time, people and iterations will save you!
The calculator automatically tells you if will save money!
